My current work pays homage to the historical folk pottery of America.  These bottles, Also known as "Jug Heads" or "Face Jugs", were historically used to store various liquid beverages.
The pieces are constructed and fired in a traditional manner.  I start each piece with a few pre-conceived ideas, but find the heads, very early on, begin to acquire an identity of their own.  Many of the pieces are fired in a traditional groundhog kiln, fired with wood, and salt glazed.
I have been influenced by early American Folk Pottery, the Hispanic tradition of "el Dia de los Muertos, Native American Art, and early primitive art.
Clay is a material that continues to infatuate me.  The Native Americans believe that clay is a gift from Mother Earth, that it is alive and possesses a soul.

Each piece features handcrafted fired ceramic beads.  The surface design of the featured beads is achieved by the utilization of age old firing techniques combined with the use of symbolic inscriptions that are borrowed from various cultures and from nature; flowers, leaves, and berries.
